Chaophraya In Glasgow

I had been eager to go to Chaophraya for ages; we simply hadn’t had the chance to visit with everything going on.

Chaophraya is located in what is known as “The Townhouse” on Buchanan Street, and iconic building in Glasgow and offers Thai/ Chinese cuisine. The organisation also has a bar located at the bottom of the restaurant, which offers beautiful cocktails in a sort of lounge type venue.

My Sk’s birthday was last week and I couldn’t think of a better opportunity than this to visit Chaophraya.

I scouted the menu first before I made a booking to make sure we both liked at least one dish before I booked it. It sounded delicious, I made the booking online through their website weeks in advance.

We were running late on the day and after calling to see if I move the booking to an hour later the restaurant were really helpful and co-operative.

Looking from the outside to the restaurant it doesn’t do it any justice. It’s not until you are inside the building and see the venue itself that you can really appreciate the artwork and décor, it is breath-taking.

We were shown to our table and provided with three menus, all from which we could choose from. Every menu had its own reason such as a la carte or a set menu. Our booking was at 18.00pm; it was quite early as we had planned to go out for drinks afterwards yet I couldn’t believe how busy the place was- it was jumping!

The restaurant has a set theme, which is obvious with Buddha statues everywhere. The staff are dressed in traditional Thai costume and put together with the artwork and history of the building itself it creates a magical and relaxed setting.

Our dinner was delicious. Absolutely amazing! To start Mr Sk had chicken spring rolls and I had chicken and crab meat steamed dumplings. For our main course we both chose the pineapple with prawn garnished with honey pork. It was literally half a pineapple cut out with turmeric rice inside it. It had squares of pineapple through it and was topped with prawns and honey pork. It was delicious!

We ventured downstairs for cocktails before going out for the night.

Our experience of Chaophraya was amazing, such a lovely date night for Mr Sk’s birthday. I cannot wait to go back, it was that good I’m thinking of going back next week when we have another date night to celebrate the end of uni for the summer.

I completely recommend this venue, it’s a beautiful night out whether its simply dinner or a start to a party night.
