The Cold Stone Creation at Crollas
If you haven’t tried or even heard of the cold stone creation then you haven’t lived. Ladies & gentlemen I encourage you to sample this beauty immediately.
For those who haven’t heard of “The Cold Stone Creation” it is a mixture of ice cream involving numerous flavours, mashed together topped off with a mixture of sauces and decorations such as sprinkles, tablet and meringue. The dessert can be consumed inside the restaurant or be taken away (to be honest I prefer to eat it inside as it is presented a lot nicer compared to when being taken away).
The “The Cold Stone Creation” is a unique dessert sold only in Crollas, Glasgow.
Crollas is located at 221 Byres Rd, Glasgow, G12 8UD offering numerous sweet and savoury treats ranging from ice cream sundaes, waffles, to toasties and Panini’s, not forgetting the infamous “Cold Stone Creation.” Crollas has been producing ice cream for over 100 years creating a well known and recognised brand.
Crollas founder Serafino Crolla left his home of Italy to set up an ice cream shop in Glasgow in 1895. A second shop was later opened in Clydebank followed shortly by the Premier Café opening up in Bridgeton. By the year 1950 the company had 30 ice cream vans on the streets selling ice cream.
I absolutely love this place and would recommend it to anyone. The shop itself is extremely encouraging for new visitors to go in and sample the treats on sale. The décor is bright and enthusiastic offering a two-tier café in the style and been designed to reflect a typical, stereotype ice cream parlour with a retro look. The café even hosts seats that are in the shape and design of milk cannons- very cute. The café offers a warm welcome with friendly staff.
There are over sixty flavours of ice cream to choose from providing an assortment of basic flavours like vanilla to fancy flavours such as blue moon (a bubblegum type flavour). In addition there is a specials board offering the most popular combinations of the “Cold Stone Creation”. Originally I was addicted to the “Scottish Special” which combined both vanilla and tablet flavours together however recently I have been known to indulge in the “Cookie Overdose” providing lots and lots of chocolate ice cream and sauce- perfect for the chocoholic in us and it goes perfect with a cup of tea.
I tend to visit Crollas almost every week or at least every second week (my guilty pleasure). This little café holds a special place in my heart becoming one of my favourite places to visit. During the crazy and manic times in my schedule from working and studying every day I’m left with little time to catch up properly with friends. Crollas provides the perfect location to catch up in an enjoyable and pleasant environment. The menu is appropriately priced making it affordable to visit numerous times throughout the month. This not only allows me to catch up with friends but it also allows me to indulge in my little drop of heaven, escaping from the madness of student life for a couple of hours.
The “Cold Stone Creation” can be viewed at the website Crollas or the company’s Twitter page Crollas.
Why not pay a visit to Crollas at Byres Road, sample the menu and let me know what your favourite combination is.
