Not Staying In

The last few days before the year is out plans are made to celebrate New Year! Arrangements tend to include where to go and what to drink not forgetting the all-important outfit to wear. The days of and before the big night turns into a mad rush.

On 1st January the day is spent recovering in a hangover mess wanting to eat our body weight in carbs and sugar. From then on we focus ourselves on making resolutions for the New Year with 90% of the resolutions including promises to carry out regular trips to the gym, eat healthy and to stop going out to help save money.

As much as I’m all for saving money, hitting the gym and eating healthier, I don’t plan on putting a stop to my eating out- I love eating out, it’s my treat.

A regular "mate date" visit to Crollas, Byres Road.

In 2008 I was working as cabin crew for a well-known airline, operating throughout the United Kingdom and soaring from destination to destination within Europe. It was about a year into the job I noticed I was looking a lot heavier and bloated compared to normal. As much as I would own up to consuming an unhealthy diet with my occupation I was bigger than normal. Visiting the doctor after experiencing this for a few months I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, otherwise known as IBS. According to NHS it is a gut related condition that results with patients having to change their daily diets and remove specific ingredients from their eating habits such as wheat, gluten etc.

IBS is easy to live with, I simply alter my diet and replace certain items with healthier options and I still continue my treats of eating out however I now choose to go to unique restaurants rather than chain restaurants. The exceptions of Nandos and Zizzi’s that offer gluten free options or meat within their menu I still tend to visit. I am not able to go to establishments such as TGI’s and Frankie & Benny’s as I find the menu options don’t suit my diet.

Being a mature student I find that I don’t tend to go out and hit nightclubs as much as I used to, compared to when I was younger. I’m currently saving for a house deposit and can’t afford the money or the time in regards to university work to allow me to go out. This is mainly why I allow myself to still eat out. It is not only cheaper but also allows me to stick to my New Year’s resolution to save money.

I love eating out! No matter the time of day I absolutely adore getting dressed up and heading out for food on my day off (rare occasion during semester time). One thing that does not exist in my new year’s resolutions for 2016 is to stop eating out. It doesn’t matter whether it is for breakfast, lunch or dinner I absolutely adore going out for food and a catch up with friends and loved ones.

This is the exact reason why I created my blog. I simply enjoy going out on the hunt for unique restaurants that provide different and home made cooked food. In my blog I will be discussing and recommending my favourite unique establishments to visit. From breakfast to dinner, food options to drinks I will be taking you through my travels and my favourite eateries along the way.
