The Beech Tree At The West Highland Way

Located in Dumgoyne, Killearn is TheBeech Tree, a beautiful little restaurant and bar placed on its own in the countryside. Before even stepping inside the place its surroundings will take your breath away. I’ve been coming here for years and there is nothing better than jumping in the car and going for a scenic drive in the sunshine and ending up at TheBeech Tree for dinner. To me TheBeech Tree is similar to the Duck Bay Marina (see previous blog) in regards to the market the restaurant targets but a little more homely and cosier.

This little gem is an independently owned venue and has been in operation for years, building up an impressionable image so good that the same customers who visited the restaurant ten years ago are still coming back. TheBeech Tree is beautiful, an idyllic country restaurant welcoming everybody. During the summer the restaurant is a major hot spot with customers, it is one of the most popular places within the Stirlingshire region to visit on a sunny day.

TheBeech Tree was formally two cottages built together and known as Killearn Station states TheBeech Tree. This later became known as the town Dumgoyne. Originally a train line connected the local towns, which was then converted into a grocer before becoming a residential spot. In 1976 it became a restaurant/bar and has stayed the same since although the owners have changed over the years.

As I stated previously, the location is perfect, it’s so peaceful and quiet. The restaurant has a large car park with a pathway leading up to the venue with a bridge going over a small pond. TheBeech Tree hosts a massive beer garden for those days in the summer when everyone just wants to finish work and have a glass of wine in the sunshine. More importantly the restaurant provides for all types of customers from couples, families, bikers and those walking the WestHighland Way. Walkers doing the hike that stretches from Milingavie to Fort William are known to stop in on the way at TheBeech Tree for food and drinks.

TheBeech Tree presents a very homely environment, extremely warm and inviting. The team provide excellent customer service and are very welcoming and friendly (we’ve been so many times we now know them). The food served is delicious; proper home made and freshly cooked food. The portion sizes are huge, you can never finish them but you certainly get your money’s worth. The menu caters for most types of diets including those who are vegetarian or can’t eat gluten/ wheat. The menu also includes items from snacks to three course meals including breakfast, lunch and dinner options.

In TheBeech Tree grounds there are a couple of adorable farm animals that keep guests company whilst sitting outside. Completing the farm and country look there are two billy goats, ducks and a couple of other animals in the back fields playing about. TheBeech Tree sells animal food for those guests who wish to go out and feed the animals.

TheBeech Tree is the perfect location for a nice drive on a sunny day/evening finishing off at the venue for some food. The restaurant is also nice for a family dinner out on a Saturday night. I understand the franchise restaurants are trendy nowadays but there is nothing better than eating and drinking in a unique country pub in the peace and quiet.
