A Taste Of The Irish At The Church

Today’s blog takes us across the waters to the little Irish city known as Dublin. Here we find the hidden treasure known as The Church. Mr Sk and I were very lucky to have time off after the Christmas holidays and taking advantage of Ryanair’s good price cuts we took ourselves off to Dublin for a couple of days. One of my good friends had recommended we go to The Church however I’m one of those people that can’t be bothered looking for places when on holiday, I’m happy to stroll about and see what we come across.

We found The Church by chance; it was at the end of our street, we just happened to come across it. For those who haven’t been to Dublin it is a very small city and pretty much everything is within walking distance. Dublin is beautiful, it’s quite a mixture of traditional and modern but it’s so pretty, especially at night. The town appears quiet throughout the day but in the evening it turns into a party. My usual dress of heels and a dress would’ve totally stuck out like a sore thumb. It doesn’t matter where you go in Dublin (apart from the young teeny bopper clubs) its very casual and dress down. Girls and guys both wear flat footwear, jeans and tops- no dresses to be seen in sight.

The Church was built in the 18th century and became one of Ireland’s most galleried churches, confirms The Church. Sadly the venue closed in 1964 staying empty for years till a man called John Keating bought it over in 1997. Mr Keating spent the next seven refurbishing the church in complete detail before opening the place under the branch of John.M Keating’s bars. The venue began to receive recognition, even receiving rewards. After refurbishment the venue opened up again in 2007 originally as a restaurant but has since grown and grown. It now hosts as a cafĂ©, restaurant, bar and nightclub venue.

Mr Sk and I had dinner here on our last night in Dublin and at that it was last minute having only found it as we walked round the corner to find it at the end of our street. We hadn’t realised it was so late this night when we out for dinner resulting in us literally being the last couple to order dinner before the kitchen shut.

The Church is an absolutely beautiful restaurant to dine in. I am not one usually to show interest in historical buildings but this place is a little treasure. It is just stunning. From simply sitting inside the building for five minutes we could easily see why the venue received such high recommendations. The place is very busy but it is such a large setting you don’t realise how busy it is. There is enough space for everyone and the tables sit perfectly around the bar area facing the front allowing guests to watch the entertainment.

We were treated to a beautiful dinner with delicious cocktails followed by spectacular Irish dancing. An acoustic band played music throughout the night whilst we ate and Irish dancers entertained the crowd. It was a brilliant night and very different to what we have back home.

The venue is perfect for groups of friends or couples going out for dinner and drinks to finish the night up with dancing. It was during the week we visited Dublin, sadly the nightclub wasn’t open but we still had a beautiful date night; perfect to finish off our couple of days away. Sadly it was a bit rushed with getting food ordered so I wasn’t able to grab pictures of my own.

For anyone travelling to Dublin I would truly recommend The Church to anyone for a good night out. Whether it is dinner, drinks or dancing the place is perfect and is situated in an excellent location should you wish to go out to late nightclubs.

Mr Sk and I have been fortunate enough to visit London twice in the past year and we were very lucky to have the time off to pop over to Dublin. London has always been a favourite getaway for me but having visited Dublin I would now say I prefer Dublin to London. It’s within walking distance, it’s affordable and the place is a lot less busy compared to London.
